02:53 pm - re: final evaluations
(For some reason, LiveJournal would not let me post a reply, so I will try the reply here - sorry for the "specificness" of the reply, meant for just two people)

Ben and Heidi,

Thanks for your responses. It seems like we are all in agreement about the "stupidity" of such ratings! I think a 1-10 Scale would be much more helpful! Anywhoo..

Yes, I am a little sad too about internship being almost over. I have been so warmly received here, and have had such a great working relationship with my supervisor, that it would be really easy to just stay! But it will be nice to finish up the classes, too - and actually someday get a little more than an intern's stipend! :)

Take care, and we'll see you in August!

11:28 am - Final Evaluations
I hope all of you are doing well. To those of you who are done already, congrats!

I just had a question regarding the final evaluation forms. When you are filling out your own self-evaluation, how are you handling the "Not Competent/Competent/Exceptional" ratings?

"Competent" seems rather ho-hum, while "exceptional" seems a bit too much. BUT, to highlight those areas you feel you excel at, are you putting down a few exceptionals?! Just curious...

Take care, and I hope to see some of you at the retreat in August!

That is great to go to LSTC's graduation... way to support the crowd. I went to Denver, did some awesome hiking and came back yesterday. We have a group at the center from WA DC (must be like Rebecca's stomping ground!) lots of military folks out there- but this group is really nice. They are out in one of the districts building a basement. It is over 90* so I am glad I get to stay in this nice air-conditioned building and make a banner. I think it will be good to be done and back to Chicago. After going to Denver I figured out that I miss urban environments - even though Denver is right next to the mountains. I figured out that I have less than 3 months left. Before I know it I can drive around in my pimp ride down Cottage Grove.

04:34 pm - rain
Hey all fellow interns out there...

It is raining on the rez today. I hate rain... being from the Northwest I should be used to it, but nope! Anyway, I am excited that tomorrow is Easter. For Good Friday a bunch of people in the community went on a hike and contemplated the stations of the cross along the way. It was really cool - but I felt sorry for the guy who had to carry that cross for 5 miles! It was like 80* yesterday and not a cloud in site - so I got a little sunburned (yikes).

I also had to take some emergency leave. My grandpa passed away on March, 30th. I tried to fly out to Seattle before he passed but I didn't make it in time. My cousins flew in from NYC and it was a fabulous memorial service and on the day there were NO CLOUDS or rain at all. He would have loved it.

So, I figure for every Easter we have to go through Good Friday - Good Friday's aren't exactly fun but we can learn from them.

I hope it doesn't rain too much tomorrow. The mud on the rez is unbearable - like slick grease and it gets everywhere! Besides I bought some new cute sandles at home and I want to wear them.

Happy Easter everyone!

01:54 pm - Hey folks...
Hey y'all. I hope all is well out there in the last months of our learning experiences. This last week was a little busy. I took a week of "emergency leave" to go home for my Grandma's Funeral. It was a great experience to be with my family after her death, during her funeral, etc. On behalf of my family I gave the family tribute at her funeral. I will post it on my sermon blog soon. But in the meantime, I did post a small tribute to her on my blog. http://lylesthirdyear.blogspot.com/

The prayer requests I would like to shout out are 1) Prayers for my family - it wasn't easy for them to say goodbye to Grandma Irene. 2) Prayers of Thanksgiving - thank God for Grandma Irene! She was a living testament to the Gospel, and a gift from God.

Keep on rockin', and hold on to your sanity this Holy Week.

All of God's abundant blessings.
